Robert Taylor Ghee, 1869-1951

Robert Taylor Ghee, 'Through the Forest, Fernshaw, Victoria, Australia, 1908', oil painting on board

This superb oil by Robert Taylor Ghee is similar to a lager work by the artist titled "Hauling the Logs" circa 1905, held in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria. There are a number of minor differences in the detail of the two paintings including an additional figure to the right of the bullock train on the larger work and an added emphasis placed on the towering mountain ash forest, but otherwise the two paintings are very much alike.
